Cookie Notice
Every cookie HypeCity sets, what it does, how long it lasts, and how to opt out of the analytics ones.
1. Overview
This Notice explains the cookies and similar local-storage entries HypeCity Intelligence LTD, a private limited company incorporated in Israel, Company No. 517353868 ("HypeCity", "we") uses on hypecintelligence.com and hypecity.com (the "Service"), and how you can manage them.
"Cookies" are small text files placed on your device by a website. We also use localStorage and sessionStorage for some of the same purposes; we treat them as cookies for the purposes of this Notice. Categories below follow the structure expected by GDPR / ePrivacy and the Israeli Privacy Protection Law.
Strictly-necessary cookies are set without prior consent because the Service does not function without them. Analytics cookies are gated behind consent where prior consent is required. If you visit from the EU, EEA, or UK, a consent banner appears on your first visit and no analytics script loads or sends anything until you press "Accept analytics"; if you decline, analytics stay off and your choice is remembered. Outside those regions, analytics run on a notice-only, legitimate-interests basis and you may opt out at any time (Section 6). If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a decline. We do not use cookies for cross-context behavioural advertising.
2. Strictly necessary
Without these, the Service can't remember who you are between page loads or keep your subscription session secure.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
hc_anon | HypeCity (first-party) | Random UUID linking your browser to your Watchlist, quiz results, and subscription tier. | 2 years |
hc_anon_read | HypeCity (first-party) | Readability flag confirming the cookie was set. | 2 years |
hc_anon_session | HypeCity (first-party) | In-session shadow used during the initial cookie handshake. | Session |
__cf_bm / Turnstile tokens | Cloudflare (third-party, on protected forms) | Bot management for the waitlist and authentication forms. | 30 minutes |
hc_consent (+ hc_consent_v1 in localStorage) | HypeCity (first-party) | Remembers your analytics consent choice so we don't re-ask and don't load analytics you declined. | 1 year |
3. Analytics
Set during normal use so we can see which features people use and which ones are getting in the way. Linked to the hc_anon id, never to PII. Never used for advertising.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_* | PostHog (third-party) | Distinct ID + session ID for product analytics. | up to 1 year |
| Plausible | Plausible (third-party script) | Cookieless aggregate page statistics. Sets no cookie, but the script is still consent-gated in the EU/EEA/UK. | — |
In the EU, EEA, and UK these analytics load only after you accept in the consent banner. Everywhere they run, you can switch them off: use the cookie settings button below (Section 6), or follow PostHog's opt-out instructions. Your choice is sticky per browser. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a decline of analytics.
4. Payment (Paddle Checkout)
Set only when you visit the Paddle-hosted Checkout, i.e. when you click an upgrade button on /pricing or /founding. These cookies are required for our Merchant of Record, Paddle, to handle your payment safely and to calculate and remit applicable tax. They are not set when you simply browse HypeCity without entering checkout.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
paddle_session / paddle_* | Paddle (third-party) | Checkout session, fraud-prevention identifiers, localisation, payment-method preferences. | Session — up to 1 year (per cookie) |
Paddle's full cookie inventory and its own privacy controls are described on paddle.com/legal/privacy.
5. Affiliate / referral
Where the Service offers "Vetted Partner" links, an optional click-tracking cookie may be set when you choose to follow the partner link. You can opt out by setting the affiliate_opt_out=1 cookie in your browser; once set, no referral click is recorded and no analytics event is fired for partner clicks.
6. How to manage cookies
- Cookie settings. — re-opens the consent banner so you can change your analytics choice at any time.
- Browser settings. Every major browser lets you block or clear cookies. Blocking strictly-necessary cookies will break the Service — your Watchlist won't persist and you won't be able to keep a subscription session.
- Analytics opt-out. Decline in the consent banner (or via the cookie-settings button above); the PostHog opt-out link in Section 3 also works.
- Payment opt-out. If you don't want Paddle to set its cookies, don't visit the Paddle Checkout. We don't load Paddle scripts on pages other than the checkout flow.
- Global Privacy Control. Where your browser sends the GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out of analytics cookies on the receiving page.
7. Changes
If we add or remove cookies, this page will be updated and the "Effective" date refreshed.
